Baggs, Jen

Dr. Jen Baggs is an Associate Professor in the Peter B Gustavson School of Business, at the University of Victoria. Her primary research is on international trade and industrial organization, and focuses on how free trade agreements and exchange rate fluctuations affect firm survival, growth and financial structure, on international trade in hazardous waste, and on the effects of competition on incentive based contracts, effort and performance. Dr. Baggs conducts her research in association with Statistics Canada and the Entrepreneurship Research Alliance. She has also won the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics Young Economists' Award.

Banting, Keith

Keith Banting is holder of  the Queen’s Research Chair in Public Policy. His main area of expertise is in the field of public policy in Canada and other western nations.  More specifically, he works on issues of ethnic diversity, multiculturalism, and the welfare state. Professor Banting  was a Research Coordinator for the Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada and member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

D'Erman, Valerie

Valerie D'Erman is a a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Victoria in the Department of Political Science. She has published in International Politics, the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and contributed to a co-authored book titled "Protecting Our Ports: Domestic and International Politics of Containerized Freight Security," in 2010 with Ashgate Press. Her dissertation, "The Europeanization of Industrial Relations in Ireland and Italy," was successfully defended in December 2012.

Dandashly, Assem

Assem Dandashly is a Lecturer in European Public Policy at Maastricht University. Prior to that, Assem was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Kolleg-Forschergruppe “TheTransformative Power of Europe” Freie Universität Berlin. He holds a PhD in Political Science (2012) from the University of Victoria, BC Canada. Assem's dissertation is entitled "Euro Adoption Strategies in Central Europe: The Cases of Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland". He moves beyond the Economic cost/benefit analysis and constructivism and tries to deal with the topic from another perspective focusing on the domestic political environment of these countries.

Fraser, Derek R. T.

Derek Fraser is an Associate Fellow at the Centre for Global Studies and  Adjunct Professor of Political Scienceat the University of Victoria. His work has supported the democratization process in the Ukraine and he has organized and contributed to academic and foreign policy conferences, notably on failed states and Eastern Europe. Formerly, Derek Fraser was a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs (CIIA) and President of the Victoria branch. Dr. Basma Majerbi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. Her research is on international finance, and includes issues of integration versus segmentation of financial markets, international diversification benefits in portfolio investments, international finance and the role of financial systems in economic development and growth, as well as risk in currency pricing in global equity markets and foreign exchange rates.
