Markus Reisenleitner’s publications include a monograph on the Reformation and Counterreformation in the Habsburg lands, a monograph on images of the Middle Ages in 19th-century popular literature, an introduction to cultural studies, and several edited volumes on cross-cultural constructions of Central Europe and North America.

Education and professional achievements
Markus Reisenleitner joined York’s Division of Humanities (European Studies) in 2006. After receiving a PhD in Cultural History from the University of Vienna, he taught at the University of Vienna and the Vienna campus of Portland State University’s International Program from 1990 to 1998. In 1998, he became the first Associate Director of the Centre for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of Alberta. In 2001, he took up a position in the Department of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, where he was Head of Department from 2004-2006.
He is a member of the editorial collective of the web journal http://www.spacesofidentity.net/" target="_blank">spacesofidentity.net (housed at York's http://www.ccges.ca/" target="_blank">Canadian Center for German and European Studies), research associate of Hong Kong's http://www.ln.edu.hk/ihss/crd/" target="_blank">Kwan Fong Cultural Research and Development Programme, and a member of the executive of the Canadian" target="_blank">http://www.complit.ca/">Canadian Comparative Literature Association.

Markus Reisenleitner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities (European Studies Program) at York University. His current research focuses on visual and textual interpretations of global cities, European urban culture, and theories of space and the environment.
