The origins of interparliamentary relations between the European Parliament and the Canadian Parliament date back to 1973. Since then a total of 25 interparliamentary meetings have taken place between delegations of the European and the Canadian Parliament.
The Mission of Canada to the EU represents the Government of Canada on EU-related issues, maintains and develops cooperation between Canada and the EU and monitors the development of EU policy and legislation and its impact on Canada. The mission works closely with the EU institutions and the 27 EU Member States, plus with many Brussels-based think tanks, organisations and Missions of other countries.
The Delegation of the European Union to Canada was established in 1976. It is a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and works closely with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States, particularly the one holding the EU Presidency.
