Her first book, Market Dreams: Gender, Class, and Capitalism in the Czech Republic compares Czech women’s experiences and understandings of transformation in their work and family lives during the Czech Republic’s transition from socialism to capitalism. Achim Hurrelmann is Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Centre for European Studies (CES) at Carleton University. Paul Schure works on financial intermediation, banking, venture capital, microeconomics, firm behaviour, industrial organisation, and European economics. Before joining the University of Victoria, he worked as a consultant in the Chief Economist’s Department at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. Dr. Schure was secretary/treasurer of the European Community Studies Association-Canada (ECSA-C) between 2004 and 2010 and he is co-organizer for the ECSA-C biennial conferences of 2008 and 2010. Rianne Mahon holds the CIGI chair in comparative family and social policy at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. David Long is Professor of International Affairs in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. He has published widely on the history of international relations theory as well as on the European Union and transatlantic relations. Inger Weibust’s research examines the interplay between governance and public policy, and particularly regulation. Is it possible to create institutions to carry out policy functions previously or usually performed by national governments? Her book Green Leviathans (Ashgate Publishers, 2009) looks at cooperation on environmental regulation between states/provinces and within federations. Dr. Weibust’s findings show that even with favourable conditions, cooperative approaches have largely been ineffective in comparison with national legislation or European Union level regulation.
