Majtényi, Balázs

Prof. Dr. Balázs Majtényi is Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, and a scholar in the fields of constitutional law, minority rights, human rights, and democratic governance. His research focuses on Roma rights, the rule of law, populism, constitutional change, and democratic resilience in Central and Eastern Europe. He has authored and edited numerous books and articles on minority protection, multiculturalism, human rights, and constitutional democracy, and has held several senior academic positions.

He has extensive experience in international research collaboration and policy engagement, contributing expertise on democracy, minority rights, and constitutional change to comparative European research initiatives. He currently co-leads the ELTE research group Reconciliation and the Public Sphere after the Orbán Regime, which examines the challenges of democratic reconstruction and reconciliation in post-authoritarian contexts.

Within the Mnemonic Democracy project, he contributes expertise on constitutional democracy, minority rights, transitional justice, reconciliation, and the relationship between collective memory, identity, and democratic inclusion.
