McColl, Margaret

Dr. Margaret McColl is Senior Lecturer in Museum and Heritage Education at the University of Glasgow, where she directs the International Master of Education in Museums and Heritage (EDUMAH) and leads the MSc in Museum Education. Her research focuses on museum education, heritage learning, gallery learning, public history, feminist museology, and the role of museums in promoting social justice, democratic participation, and lifelong learning. She has published and presented extensively on museum pedagogy, collaborative learning, and innovative approaches to museum and heritage education, including digital and post-pandemic learning environments. Beyond the university, she serves as a Trustee of the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, is a Board Member of the European Museum Academy, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Museum Education Roundtable. Within the Mnemonic Democracy project, she contributes expertise on museum education, heritage interpretation, civic learning, and the role of cultural institutions in fostering democratic engagement.
